This route offers a spectacular trek on the sea side of Fajã da Ovelha and Paul do Mar, next to the Atlantic Ocean.

The first part, called Vereda dos Zimbreiros is mostly an ancient paved path, being in architectural harmony with the paired stone walls that support the land and its agricultural terraces. This scenario is accompanied by the magnificent backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.

As in most of the slopes of the municipality of Calheta, and some of the drier areas of the island, the free planting of tabaibo trees is visible and abundant.

As we get closer to the first half of the route, it is possible to get a privileged view over Paul do Mar, which makes this trail a great contemplation route.

The second part of this day hike, consists of going up the steep Vereda da Atalaia, one of the many examples of routes that the municipality of Calheta has, that once served to supply the local people with food and goods arriving by boat at Paul do Mar.

This path allows an engagement with the rural world of Madeira where great local culture still remains visible.
