Pico Grande stands at around 1660 meters high in between Curral das Freiras and Ribeira Brava basin. By far not the highest mountain in Madeira, (Pico Ruivo -1872 m), but offering great views from the top. When hiking to the top of Pico Grande, you get the real feeling of being in the mountains. This trail is not so popular as other hikes on the island, which means it is uncrowded, giving you a more authentic experience. The climb can be done in a variety of ways, coming from Curral das Freiras, Boca da Corrida, or Encumeada. The steep climb and irregular terrain will always be a challenge. If the weather cooperates, from the top it is possible to see Paul da Serra, and also Pico Ruivo, Pico das Torres, and Pico do Areeiro. A great mountain tour if wish to be away from the crowds.
